I absolutely adore the concept of shelves strategically placed around the house. They are great ways to maximize space, encourage organization and add the right amount of feel to your space.

But we all know they’re not really the most affordable piece of furniture. Then again, they’re one of the most DIY-able among all the pieces you’ll ever want to use to complete your space.

You don’t have to be a pro carpenter to DIY one for yourself and there are so many designs to take inspiration from!

So if you’re planning to add another shelf for your vast collection or just to make organizing easier, here are a few ideas you might want to consider.

Okay, so not all of these ideas are DIY ones. But, you can definitely get insight from this list when you go shelf shopping or have a contractor make you one.

This is something you can totally do on your own. Find yourself some brass looking brackets, the perfect type of rough-looking wood and a power drill and you’ll achieve one of the simplest shelf ideas on this list!

I love this idea because of how versatile it is. You can just buy crates from the farmer’s market, paint it over with varnish to give it a rustic shine and stack it up the way you want to! then, you can rearrange them for a new look!

I might say this is one of the most practical shelf ideas I’ve seen online. You can use an old shelf for your garden! Maybe a little bit of repainting and it would look new.

I’ve never really like the idea of closed cupboards in the room. It makes the space look tighter. Whereas these open shelves create a bigger space illusion and makes thing easier to access!
