Okay, so I have been quite into food since I learned how to cook when I was about four years old. Learning at such an early age developed my palate quite maturely, but never that special to actually pursue a career in the professional kitchen.
One thing I’ve noticed though, as the years went by, food has become more diverse and more eclectic when it comes to not only the taste, but to the presentation and mix and matching as well.
I think the term youngsters call it nowadays is ‘hipster’. There’s hipster interior design, hipster fashion, hipster coffee and, yes you guessed it right, hipster food.
One of the most famous ‘hipster food’ trend is the insanely delicious yet overpriced avocado toast. That’s not what you’re going to read about though but fairly related. We found this uber yummy salad recipe your inner hipster appetite would certainly appreciate.
Avocado Strawberry Spinach Salad
This is a salad perfect to greet the spring and summer season because of how seasonal strawberries and avocados are in some states. But, if you have access to those fruits year round, then this will easily be a household staple in your menu.
The recipe calls for red onion, spinach, ripe strawberries, almonds, blue cheese and avocados with a made-from-scratch dressing. What I love about this recipe is the flexibility. You can opt for a different kind of greens, feta or some other soft cheese if you’re not a blue cheese fan and roast another type of nut – whether it be cashews, pine or walnuts.
The dressing itself is something truly delectable. It’s a perfect balance of sour, tangy and sweet with the perfect side of the savory cheese. The combination of honey, mustard and apple cider vinegar will keep the salad fresh and cleansing to your palate to prepare you for your next course. Not to mention the nice added crunch you get from the poppy seeds!
But, enough about the brief yet expounded descriptions of how easy and how good this salad is. The full recipe is yours for the taking! Check out Gimme Some Oven for the full recipe.
