Every time a year is about to come to an end, we vow to start the new year right. Whether it be in our financial status, our physical appearance, our lifestyle or our personal life.

Let’s face it. Some years are really better than other years. 2017 might either be one to remember negatively or positively.

Personally, I want to start the new year off right by aiming to be happier this coming year. If that is what you want as well, here are:

There’s nothing wrong with looking back in the past – just the recent past though. Think about what you’ve done this past year.

Is there anything great that made a positive change in your life? If there are any, take note of those and keep them constant in your following year.

Anything negative, you learn from it, keep it in mind and try your best not to do the same the following year.

Be Grateful

There’s always something to be grateful for. The problem with most humans is that we focus on what we lack instead of what we do have.

Focusing on what we don’t have causes us to feel discontentment and the need to want more. But, if you take time to be thankful for the roof over your head, food on your table and friends and family who care for you, you’d realize you have things better off than many.

It’s all about perspective and being grateful for what you have is such a huge step towards happiness.

Live for You and Those Who Care for You

One thing you have to understand: you can’t please everybody. There’s no point of trying to measure up to everyone’s standards. You will only fall short of their expectation then you end up hurt and doubting yourself.

It’s easier said than done to live for YOURSELF and for those who truly care for you. It’s an ongoing process where you accept that the only opinions that matter are from those who ACTUALLY matter to you.

You know what makes you happy. Do more of it then. It’s as easy as that.

Yes, there would be things to consider such as money, time and place. But, if there’s a will there’s a way. You just have to make up your mind to do more of something that matters to you and makes you happy.

But, don’t be close minded as well if the means really won’t permit you to do what generally makes you happy.

Be Open to New Things

If you are set to JUST doing the usual things that make you happy, you might find yourself bored in the long run. It’s important to be open to trying something new.

Take up something unfamiliar to you like maybe a pottery class, or yoga, or a new craft hobby. Whatever it is you consider doing, you know yourself better.

Or, you can try being more outgoing if you’re usually recluse. Go to meet and greets, spend more time with a new crowd who shares the same interest as you.

There are many ways to start the new year right but these five ways are personally tried and tested. And, I can say that it has helped me with making 2017 better for me.

You can count on me doing the same things as I greet 2018. Give it a try. If life for you is hard now, there’s nothing to lose but much to gain right?
